Lonneke Bär, Editorial Manager

My irrepressible attraction to language, literature and art initially drew me onto the path of comparative art studies at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Université Paris-Diderot and Trinity College Dublin. After graduating, I meandered extensively through the commercial world, working for instance as a magazine and managing editor, content manager and copywriter, before finally returning to my cultural roots.

As DutchCulture’s coordinating editor since 2019, I am responsible for all our external communications, especially developing the editorial formula of our news page and the production of meaningful and inspiring articles for our readers. The point is not to create content for content’s sake or just to amass likes, but to publish pieces that look beyond the hype of the moment, that hold up a mirror to our readers or that offer a different perspective. I enjoy brainstorming with the editors to determine the best angle for an article, how to tell a story in an even more powerful way, or just putting the polish on a text. It’s fascinating and challenging to be part of this international, passionate group of people who always want to take things one step further and who never take things for granted.

In addition to my work at DutchCulture, I freelance as an editor and copywriter and am currently in the fourth year of my creative writing studies at the Schrijversvakschool.
