Publication: Proceedings of 3rd International Scientific & Practical Seminar on Heritage Preservation

This publication presents the proceedings of the 3rd International Scientific and Practical Seminar titled ‘The Preservation of Cultural Heritage. The Scientific Study and Restoration of works of 17th – 19th centuries Dutch and Flemish painting’, which took place in the Omsk Regional M.A. Vrubel Museum of Fine Arts (Russia) between 8 and 12 June 2015. This third annual gathering addressed a wide range of issues related to research, attribution, storage, temperature and humidity conditions in museum and its impact on the preservation of art. At workshops, experts shared their experience and restorative skills, and considered the technological peculiarities of artworks by Dutch and Flemish masters of the period between the 17th and the 19th centuries.

Leading experts in the field of restoration and conservation of Dutch and Flemish paintings dated to the 17th to 19th centuries held classes and workshops. Expert teams came from the Netherlands, headed by Lia Gorter - the director of the Foundation for Cultural Inventory (SCI). Furthermore, the State Scientific and Research Institute for Restoration (GosNIIR) took part in the arrangement of this important seminar. And experts from the Institute actively participated in the work of the seminar: they presented reports, held workshops and provided consultations. Art historians and restorers of regional museums in Omsk, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Tyumen, Krasnoyarsk, Vladivostok, and the Republic of Kazakhstan attended the seminar.

The proceedings of the 3rd International Scientific and Practical Seminar gathers many materials written by several museum experts. It constitutes an up-to-date and much-needed scientific work for the museum community in general and for the Russian restoration branch in particular.
